Muscle tension in the neck is linked to the vast majority of primary headaches. Americans nowadays engage in more sedentary activities than in previous generations, and they spend more time in one single position or posture (such as sitting in front of a computer). This can increase joint irritation and muscle tension  in the neck, upper back and scalp, causing your head to ache.

You're not alone if you're suffering from a headache. Nine out of ten people in the United States suffer from headaches. Some are infrequent, while others are more often. Some are dull and throbbing, while others produce terrible agony and nausea. When you have a pounding headache, what do you do? Do you clench your teeth and keep going? Do you want to lie down? Is it better to take a tablet and hope the pain goes away? There is a better option available.

Spinal manipulation, one of the key therapies performed by chiropractors, appears to be a good therapy choice for tension headaches and headaches that begin in the neck, according to research. In a 2014 study published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics (JMPT), researchers discovered that interventions commonly used in chiropractic care improved outcomes for the treatment of acute and chronic neck pain, with increased benefit in several cases where a multimodal approach to neck pain was used1. In addition, according to a 2011 JMPT research, chiropractic therapy, including spinal manipulation, can help with migraine and cervicogenic headaches2.
